If you are doing research on any aspect of the Holocaust, make sure you take a look at the official free website of the United States Holocaust Memorial. You will be able to access background information, topics of study, oral histories, photographs, videos, the Holocaust Encyclopedia and much, much more. You will be impressed with what is available.

Campaign Commercials

The Living Room Candidate contains more than 300 commercials, from every presidential election since 1952, when Madison Avenue advertising executive Rosser Reeves convinced Dwight Eisenhower that short ads played during such popular TV programs as I Love Lucy would reach more voters than any other form of advertising. This innovation had a permanent effect on the way presidential campaigns are run.

Some Sites We Like

What do "staycation", "LBD", "hockey mom" and "bromance" have in common? They all made it into the New Oxford American Dictionary, 3rd edition published this year. Check out this link and see many more words as well as phrases like "the new black" and "what's not to like?" Makes for informative reading plus it's a lot of fun.

From the New York Times Magazine, an interesting graphic timeline of learning machines from the Horn-Book wooden paddle c.1650 to the 2010 iPad. Take a look and see if you recognize some of the "machines".

This is just one sample from Jane Austen's Persuassion that is now available to be viewed digitally as part of an on-going project of the Austen Fiction Manuscripts, a joint project of University of Oxford and Kings College London. Quite an impressive collection already with more to come.

What is One-Book Holyoke?

The idea is simple: Holyoke residents read a selected book during a set period of time. Participants then come together for a variety of activities planned around the book. 2010 will mark our fourth annual "One Book Holyoke" community-wide programming.

One-Book Holyoke takes place for an eight-week period beginning in October 2010 through November 2010.

Actor (Dramatic Shorts) Biography - John Haag has narrated over 70 titles in a wide range of genres for the National Library Service’s reading program for the vision impaired, as well as for commercial publishers, including Recorded Books, Audible, Oasis Audio and Hovel Audio.
